UPDATE: March 14, 2019 at 2:37 p.m.
Brace yourselves, key lime pie fans. Chick-fil-A's twist on the refreshing dessert is officially hitting menus nationwide on Monday, March 18. The Frosted Key Lime, per Chick-fil-A's website, is a combination of the chain's signature vanilla ice cream, its famous lemonade, and "natural, sugar-free lime flavoring." The flavoring is made with a blend of key limes, kaffir limes, and Persian limes.
The Frosted Key Lime was tested at select Austin, Texas, Chick-fil-A locations last fall, and lucky for the rest of the country, it was a hit. According to the chain, people loved the frozen treat's "creaminess, authentic key lime taste, and blend of tartness and sweetness" and they often ordered the drink with waffle fries.
A team member from one of the Austin locations says "the Frosted Key Lime intrigued our guests because of its unique color and flavor combination. Once they tried it, they were hooked!" Chick-fil-A chef Christy Cook is confident that if you like the Frosted Lemonade, you'll definitely be into the Frosted Key Lime as well.
The new Frosted Key Lime will be a seasonal offering from March 18 to May 25 (or while supplies last). You can order it in a small or large, starting at $3.39. The small has 350 calories (if ordered with regular Lemonade) or 280 calories with Diet Lemonade.
We can't wait to try it!

- Chick-fil-A is testing a drink called the Frosted Key Lime, inspired by key lime pie.
- It's made with ice cream, lemonade, and lime flavoring.
- While it's only available in select Austin, Texas locations for now, it may go nationwide in the future.
Chick-fil-A is known for their fried chicken, dipping sauces, and waffle fries, but their drink options have a cult following, too. Their Frozen Lemonade is the stuff is of legend, and fans flock to the chain every winter for their Peppermint Chocolate Chip shake. And now, there's another drink that could be permanently added to the Chick-fil-A menu.
The new drink that's being tested is called the Frosted Key Lime, and it's based on the pie of the same name. The drink features vanilla ice cream, the famous Chick-fil-A lemonade, and lime flavoring that's made with a blend of key limes, kaffir limes, and Persian limes.
And as Chick-fil-A Chef Christy Cook explained in a statement, the Frosted Key Lime drink gets its color from an unexpected source. "It gets its pale green color from a mix of spirulina and turmeric – both known for being rich in nutrients and having numerous health benefits," she said.
Though it's unclear how much of a health benefit you'd really get—it's still ice cream, after all. A version with regular lemonade has 340 calories, while a version with diet lemonade has 270 calories.
Cook also said she got her inspiration for the Frosted Key Lime from a Key Lime Pie Milkshake, a drink that the brand previously thought about adding to their menu. As Foodbeast reports, the Frosted Key Lime is available in select Austin-area restaurants for a limited time, and a small goes for $3.39. Fingers crossed that the test goes well, because based on customer feedback, the Frosted Key Lime could be added to Chick-fil-A menus nationwide.
