Those viral skull logs that caught fire last Halloween are back and more bone-chilling than ever. Following the popularity of the fireproof logs, stores have started to carry the creepy decor—for a fraction of the previous price.
We first stumbled upon the terrifying human skull-shaped logs (pictured above) on Amazon while scouring stores for the creepiest decorations last year—and we honestly don't know how we ever entertained on October 31st without them.
Made with refractory material like that found in faux fireplace logs, the spooky stoneware skulls are fireproof and lightweight. That means you can place them directly in your fire pit or fireplace and watch the flames fill the mouths and eye sockets (eek!) for an eerie effect.
At $35 for a set of two, Spirit Halloween offers the most economical price, while options on Amazon cost $45-$50 a pop. The latter are apparently the average size of a real human skull (8 to 9 inches long and 6.5 to 7.5 inches wide) and look even more realistic after burning a bit.
Walmart also carries ceramic skulls, priced at $30 each. If that sounds like a lot, know that refractory ceramic logs can last for many years—so it's really a small price to pay for such a creepy conversation-starter.
Don't have a working fireplace? They look just as scary when displayed on the mantel.
