When you go to your favorite pizza place, you're expecting to be served pizza made by them, right? Obvi—which is why a video posted to Twitter has pizza fans rattled. Twitter user Vincent Romero (@vinandwesson) posted a video on Saturday, in what appears to be a Little Caesars location inside a store (there's shopping carts). The video pans to a shopping cart filled with frozen DiGiorno pizzas sitting near the counter. The tweet says, "this can't be happening right in front of me".
Romero told Delish that he took the video while waiting for his "hot n ready pizza" in Little Caesars on October 5. He says in his peripheral vision, he saw a shopping cart full of DiGiorno. Though the employees were too far for him to hear any dialogue, Romero says, "I found it amusing so I recorded the clip and uploaded it to Twitter."
Romero didn't share what Little Caesars location he filmed the video, but said "it's the best tasting Little Caesars around," and that he didn't speak to any employees at the time, because he didn't really have an urge to. Turns out, it was an ironic coincidence.
A spokesperson at Little Caesars said in a statement to Delish, "Of course, Little Caesars only serves freshly baked pizzas made from fresh dough." The day Romero was at the K-Mart franchise location, K-Mart had received a few complaints from customers who had purchased expired DiGiorno pizzas from that location. "Because it was so close to closing time, the K-Mart manager directed his employee to temporarily store them in a cooler adjacent to the Little Caesars location for disposal in the morning," the Little Caesars spokesperson added. "I can confirm that no DiGiorno pizzas were baked or served at this Little Caesars location."
Those who saw the video on Twitter this weekend without that context, though, had THOUGHTS. There are nearly 41,000 retweets and almost 123,000 likes on the tweet. Of course, DiGiorno had to join the convo.
Someone replied to the tweet, and tagged DiGiorno, saying "explain???"
DiGiorno continued to reply to tweets on the thread, and the following day, posted the video saying, "We have no idea what's going on. All we know is that we've watched this no less than 128 times."
DiGiorno is definitely tickled by the whole situation, and people are going to town with teasing Little Caesers about the incident.
Chrissy Teigen tweeted the video yesterday, and wrote "the only Little Caesars I wanna go to".
DiGiorno replied, "Same." Little Caesars joined in today, replying to the video with "Apparently, this store has a trade-in program."
DiGiorno responded: "Two days to come up with that? Really?" This time, Little Caesars had a line ready:
Thank you Little Caesars, DiGiorno, and K-Mart for a very entertaining coincidence!
