If you're a McDonald's fan, you probably have your go-to order, or a couple of items that you rotate between. Sometimes you want to change things up though, which is why McDonald's-goers in South Florida are in luck. On Wednesday, fifty locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties introduced new menu items that aren't your average Double Cheeseburger. The four items being tested have previously been sold only outside the U.S., according to Miami Herald.
For burger fans, there's the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger, hailing from Spain. You can order it as a single or double, and it's topped with Gouda cheese, applewood smoked bacon, slivered onions, and "McBacon sauce", Miami Herald reports. The sauce is apparently a mix of bacon jam and mayo, and I'm certainly not opposed. Here's a photo of the burger from McDonald's Spain's website:
The writer from Miami Herald that tried the new items says the Gouda and bacon make for a "smoky, right-off-the-grill" flavor, and describes the burger as "heavy."
The BBQ McShaker Fries come from Malaysia, and sound absolutely delicious. An order of classic McDonald's fries comes with a seasoning packet and separate paper bag, where you shake things up. The fries ($2.49) are a good option for fans of bbq-flavored potato chips, Miami Herald advises.
From Hong Kong, there's the McSpicy Chicken sandwich, which confuses me slightly, because I feel like I've had a Spicy McChicken before? Anyway, this is basically a regular McChicken with spices in the batter, per Miami Herald. Apparently it's "crispy and indeed lives up to its tangy moniker", but not "overly spicy." This is from the Hong Kong menu:
Finally, the Stroopwafel McFlurry (the main event, in my opinion) comes from the Netherlands. If you've ever had a stroopwafel, then you know...the only thing that would make one more delicious would be one served in McDonald's vanilla ice cream. For those of you unfamiliar, a stroopwafel is a waffle cookie that's stuffed with caramel. Need I say more?
Stefanie Betancourt, owner and operator of 20 McDonald's franchises in South Florida, told Miami Herald, "We're really excited because it's not often you get to sample things from other countries. The amount of diversity we have here and the open-mindedness to these flavors says a lot about the customers that we cater to."
Miami Herald reports that the international items are only available for a limited time. We've reached out to McDonald's for details about how long the items will be on the menu, and will update when we hear back. Fingers crossed that McDonald's decides to expand the offering to other parts of the U.S.—I really want a Stroopwafel McFlurry!
