Ohio has done it again.
In 2016, the Butler County Visitors Bureau opened an 80-mile Donut Trail that covered 12 donut shops in Butler County. And now, Ohio's Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau has revealed their own sugar fest called the Ohio Buckeye Candy Trail.
The Candy Trail features 31 candy shops throughout Ohio, covering cities like Cincinnati, Canton, Dayton, and Cleveland with a cluster of stops in the Columbus area, that people with a sweet tooth can visit within the state, Food & Wine reports.
The trail also features a tribute to one of Ohio's most famous candies—the buckeye. It's a sweet treat that consists of a peanut butter fudge ball that is partially dipped in chocolate. It was named after the nuts from the Ohio buckeye tree, which is how Ohio got the nickname of The Buckeye State.
Standouts on the Ohio Buckeye Candy Trail include Marsha's Homemade Buckeyes in Perrysburg, Ohio, which is a shop that specializes in peanut butter and chocolate candy buckeyes. They also set the world record for largest buckeye at 339 pounds.
A stop in Columbus includes Anthony Thomas, one of the largest family-owned and operated candy companies in the Midwest. According to their website, they produce an average of 50,000 pounds of chocolates daily.
The Sweet Tooth Cottage in Powell also offers chocolate treats and buckeyes, but they're best known for their creative cookies. Every item sold in the store is made from scratch and by hand.
So, what are you waiting for? Ohio awaits!
