If there's one thing Starbucks takes to the grave, it's the Pumpkin Spice Latte release date. Last year's announcement included a strange, lengthy Facebook live video. This year's reveal was decidedly less theatrical after Business Insider seemingly leaked the release date weeks before the official announcement was supposed to be made.
While it's not clear who gave BI the "internal announcement of Starbucks' fall 2018 menu," pictures show the return date as August 28. A spokesperson for Starbucks would not confirm the official launch date, instead saying this: "Our pumpkins aren’t ready to make their handcrafted PSL official debut yet — we’ll have more news to share soon."
Per the photos posted on BI, the fall drink line-up includes PSLs, Salted Caramel Mochas, and Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Lattes, with two more new drinks to come in September.
Leaks often happen via Reddit threads, where employees have been known to post photos once seasonal supplies come in. Two weeks ago, a post on the Starbucks Reddit thread seemed to warn employees about exactly this behavior: "Just a quick reminder that it is strictly forbidden to post anything that has not been announced yet. That includes names, recipes, etc. This seems to be hard to grasp for some users in this subreddit."
Despite the warning, baristas have posted supplies to Reddit, like this beautiful jug of Pumpkin Spice syrup. While the official return date can't be 100 percent confirmed, what we do know is that PSL's are in our future — in the last few years, the return date has been between the very end of August to the first few days of September. The basic B in us can't wait.
