If you've ever tried to make watermelon juice, there's a good chance it went something like this: You halved the watermelon β€” the most annoying of tasks β€” then chopped it up into small enough pieces to fit into your blender. If you've got a Magic Bullet or other single-serving blender, that means a whole lot of cutting. Leave it to Alton Brown, food scientist and former Good Eats host, to come up with a hack that'll make you even more excited for watermelon season to finally be here.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Alton changed the game with a new way to juice a watermelon. Besides leaving the shell intact, it takes way less effort, as long as you have one handy tool.

Step one: Grab a three-inch biscuit cutter and press it into the top of a watermelon.

Step two: Using a knife, cut out the hole.

Step three: Put an immersion blender in the hole and blend away.

In the video, Alton then poured the watermelon juice into a measuring cup. He recommends straining it through a fine sieve to get out any pulp if you're using it in a recipe, but as one equally genius commenter observed, you could also just pour in some vodka and add a straw. A summer full of watermelon cocktails starts right ... now. Thanks Alton πŸ™Œ
