Each day, it feels like Amazon is one step closer to world domination when it comes to their e-commerce biz. But, not so fast — last month Kroger paired up with U.K. supermarket Ocado and not only does Amazon have some competition, Kroger has now taken the lead in grocery delivery.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Kroger's partnership with Ocado begins with building 20 warehouses over the next three years which will cost them a grand total of $400 million. But, by shelling out serious dough, the U.S. retailing company will be able to carry out online delivery orders there and also online order that customers can swing by and pick up in stores.

This is all thanks to a little help from some very advanced technology (a.k.a., robots). The robots role will be to sort through the grocery items to be sure they're for the right customers after which real humans will then gather them for each order. And crazier than that, Ocado won't share their robot secrets with any other U.S. retailers. Gasp!

There's no doubt competitors like Walmart and Amazon will be doing everything in their power to sneak up from behind. As of March 2018, Walmart is now delivering groceries in 100 cities. We doubt either retail giant will be resting after hearing this.
