In today's feel-good news, the original Gerber spokesbaby, 91-year-old Ann Turner Cook, just met 2018's baby food star, Lucas Warren — and we're crying at how cute the photo evidence is.
The newest Gerber baby is also the first of the brand's spokesbabies to have Down Syndrome. Cook, who's still portrayed in Gerber's iconic trademark logo, met up with Lucas and his family, and Gerber shared a photo of the moment on its Instagram Tuesday.
The Warrens said that the two, "immediately bonded." AW. "Lucas walked right up to her, flashing his signature smile and waving, and we could tell he loved her right away," the Warren family told ABC News. "He even grabbed two cookies and offered her one, which she accepted! Ann Turner Cook is truly a wonderful woman and pleasure to be around, and we couldn’t be more grateful that she took the time to meet with our family."
Back in 1928, Gerber was looking for a face for the then newly launch baby food company. To find what they were after, they held a competition, and according to Gerber, many artists sent in elaborate oil paintings. Artist Dorothy Hope Smith sent in a simple charcoal sketch of her neighbor Leslie Turner's four-month-old girl, Ann, and the rest my friends was history. To this day, Smith's sketch remains the company's official trademark.
As for the newest Gerber baby, Lucas's mother submitted him on a whim to Gerber's 2018 contest. To enter, she posted her son on Instagram using the proper hashtags, and their family heard back that Lucas had been chosen over 140,000 entries.
