Krispy Kreme is adding a new twist to its beloved glazed donut. The donut chain announced Tuesday that a Blueberry Glaze Donut will be sold at Krispy Kreme shops across the U.S. and Canada starting May 21. But you'll have to get to the store fast, because the special treat will only be available for one week until May 27.
Earlier this year, Krispy Kreme held a crowdsourced contest called Vote for Glaze that asked customers to choose their favorite flavor out of blueberry, caramel, maple, or lemon. Lemon was the winner, and the Krispy Kreme's Lemon Glaze Donut was sold in participating stores from April 23 to April 29 thanks to America's vote.
Brittany Dubin, Culinary Innovation Lead at the company, said in a press release that after the popularity of the vote, the company decided to give one of the runners up a try, too. "When we looked at how America voted, other flavors received a lot of support and blueberry stood out as a unique and exciting culinary challenge that inspired my team," she said.
The lemon donut reportedly had a fresh, bright taste to it, with all of the sweetness of the original. We'll have to wait and see how the blueberry flavor stacks up once it's released next week.
Krispy Kreme is no stranger to experimenting with new flavors. In April, they released a batch of new donuts inspired by America's favorite cookies, including Chip Ahoy! and Nutter Butter, that looked absolutely mouth-watering.
