Having spent years in the public eye, it's always been a priority for Meghan Markle to keep in shape. And with her wedding to Prince Harry coming up, it's likely she'll be maintaining a steady health and fitness plan.
But what exactly does that entail? Speaking to WomensHealth.com recently, Meghan's former trainer Craig McNamee - who founded Catalyst Health in Toronto and worked with the former actress for three years - shared an insight into the exercise regimen Meghan followed.
Noting that the future Royal is "very focussed on her health", Craig said it was his job to build upon the regular yoga and running that she did to elevate her fitness even further. This, the trainer explained, was predominantly done with a lot of circuit-based strength training.
Craig took a "full-body approach" to the circuits in the 45-minute sessions he had with Meghan three-to-four times a week. The sessions would start with a five-minute cardio warmup, followed by five minutes of stretching, and then a circuit with a specific focus on posture. Meghan regularly worked her glutes, her back and her hamstrings, as well as her core, with exercises targeting her abs, back, obliques and pelvic floor. The end of the workout would consist of a five-minute stretching cooldown, Craig explained.
But, as you'll hear from most fitness experts, the real key to the success of the exercise plan was not being too repetitive, making sure instead to create "a dynamic workout with a lot of variety".
Although Craig no longer trains Meghan now she lives in London, the pair have apparently stayed in contact, and as far as he knows, she continues to practice the strength training he taught her.
