From dessert-inspired flavors to cherry blossom infusions, the trend for innovative gins is going nowhere. But if you’re looking for a new way to up your G&T game, this latest launch is sure to take your favorite drink to the next level.
Marks & Spencer has teamed up with Edinburgh-based distillery, The Old Curiosity, to launch two new flavored gins to its range of spirits. The twist? Their pigments are altered when tonic is added, making them the first color-changing gins to come to the high street. Here’s how it works.
The gins are 100% naturally distilled and infused using florals and other botanicals from The Old Curiosity’s blooming herb garden. When the tonic is added, it changes the pH of the spirit along with its original color. Clever, yes, but the mixer also brings out the scent of the gin’s natural ingredients for a unique, fruity twist on the classic tipple.
As for the flavors, there are two to choose from. The British Rose Dry Gin, £25 ($35) per bottle, is created from one of the oldest rose varieties — the Apothecary Rose — and changes from a pale gold to a brighter pink shade when mixed with tonic.
The British Lavender Dry Gin, also £25, is made from the dried flowering plant, known for its calming properties, and turns from purple to pink.
It sounds like your bar cart is about to get a lot more exciting.
