While Waffle House has been known to play host to some pretty bizarre situations, the most recent incident to make headlines was surprisingly heartwarming.
A few weeks ago, 18-year-old Evoni "Nini" Williams was working at a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, when an elderly customer needed her help. The man, who was photographed sitting at the counter, told Williams his hands don't work well and asked for assistance cutting up his food. Williams didn't think twice about lending a hand.
"I was like, sure, I stopped. I had food on the board to pick up. They were calling my name. I stepped away, came back and finished,” Williams told KPRC.
While she was cutting up his ham, another diner snapped a photo of them both. After sharing it to Facebook, the post went viral, and Williams ended up receiving a huge reward for her act of kindness.
Her good deed caught the attention of Texas Southern University, and the Houston school promptly awarded Williams a $16,000 scholarship, telling her “your act of kindness is exactly the kind of student we want at Texas Southern University.” Williams had been saving for college, and the scholarship can be used in $4,000 installments each semester.
Fittingly, the man she helped was at the scholarship ceremony, sitting right back at the Waffle House counter.
