Candles can be expensive. It's quite easy to find yourself paying cost upwards of $20 for one that will last for about a month ... that is unless you make your own. Don't worry. I'm not talking about meddling with hot wax or anything like that. This orange hack is way easier.

You'll need: one large ripe orange, olive oil and a lighter (or matches). Although I recommend picking up a couple extra oranges in case your first attempt is unsuccessful. Luckily any "fail" is a delicious and nutritious snack! Here's how to do it!

1. Using a sharp paring knife, cut crosswise around the center of the orange to release the peel from the actual fruit. (You're not actually piercing the fruit, just the peel!)

Tip: Don't cut exactly in center. Making one side of the orange a bit more shallow will help make the next part easier!

2.Starting with the shallower side of the orange, use your thumb (or a spoon) to carefully release the peel from fruit by working all the way around the orange.

3. Press your thumb as close to the stem (which will become your wick) as you can, and very carefully release the fruit from the peel. The stem should stay connected to the peel.

4. Pour olive oil over in the orange, making sure to pour some over the wick, and voila! You've just made a candle.

To be extra fancy, you could cut the remaining orange pith into a decorative cover for the candle. But it's unnecessary. What makes the candle so beautiful is how clever it is. Plus, it smells amazing!
