Attention, all cookie dough lovers: This cake replaces frosting with cookie dough. I repeat. Instead of frosting, there's an entire layer of COOKIE DOUGH. It's just as amazing as it sounds. One slice will bring you to tears — happy tears.
Because chocolate and peanut butter is quite possibly the best duo of all time, we chose chocolate cake layers. If you're a diehard PB fan, go all out and make the cake peanut butter too. Chocolate, however, is delightfully easy to make using a boxed mix. Decked out with the cookie dough and chocolate ganache, no one will think you took any shortcuts. It looks and tastes like you worked on it all day. (But you didn't, because it's so easy.)
In the cookie dough is creamy peanut butter, butter, flour, vanilla, sugar and vanilla. Basically everything in a good peanut butter cookie is here, with the exception of eggs. So as you can imagine, it tastes just like cookie dough.
Two layers of the peanut butter dough sounds incredible in theory, but it would be a stomach ache waiting to happen. The more sensible thing to do is to cover the entire cake in ganache and Reese's peanut butter cups. Agreed? Great.
(A quick note about the flour: To be safe we microwaved it for a couple minutes to, in a way, pasteurize it and hopefully kill all harmful bacteria. This method is not FDA approved.)
