"'Oh, those are fabulous,' cried Mr Wonka. 'They fill you with bubbles, and the bubbles are full of a special kind of gas, and this gas is so terrifically lifting that it lifts you right off the ground just like a balloon, and up you go until your head hits the ceiling - and there you stay.'" - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

When you think about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, your mind likely goes to the chocolate river. What you may have forgotten are the fizzy lifting drinks: the forbidden bubbly soda (at least we think they're soda) that make Charlie and his grandfather float … and nearly die.
On his tour of the factory, Willy Wonka says the flight-inducing beverage is filled with a "special kind of gas." But aside from that, he's pretty secretive about what it's made of. Grandpa and Charlie seem to like the taste but they don't describe it at all. So to create our own version, we held our breath, made a wish, and counted to three to enter the world of pure imagination, which led us to Sprite, Pixy Stix and rock candy. We also couldn't refrain from some booze, so there's a splash of vodka too. Obviously, leave it out for anyone Charlie Bucket's or August Gloop's age.
A very obvious disclaimer: The drink won't actually make you fly. But they will make you feel like a kid, floating with the clouds. These days that, in itself, is pretty great.
