As if the Sushi Burger wasn't taking everyone's Japanese favorite far enough, the Sushi Donut is here and going even more viral. Thanks to a handful of restaurants across the country, you can't really follow a food Instagram account these days without the fish-decorated stunners popping up.

I get it; when I caught my first glimpse of a sushi donut, I think you could say I was dazzled. A gorgeous sushi platter is one thing, but artfully displaying sushi ingredients so they're wrapped around a rice donut? Entirely another thing.
After seeing enough of the trend, we decided to make our own, which is super easy after you gather your ingredients — and procure a donut pan. I picked up fresh fish (ask for it to be sliced very thin!), avocado, a little seaweed salad, and all the fixings like pickled ginger, sesame seeds, and panko bread crumbs (for that tempura crunch yo!).

The cooked sushi rice gets packed into the pan — cooking it with rice vinegar makes it extra sticky to hold its shape — and then you invert the donuts onto a plate to start decorating (the fun part!). If you want to try your hand at making sushi at home, this is definitely easier than trying to roll —and also way more fun to eat.
