Time for a confession: I'm not a big Peeps person. I understand that they're basically the bastion of Easter candy, and are likely the preferred Easter treat of most sugar-loving celebrators, but … they're tough for me. All that sweetness on its own is a lot to handle! But holiday festivities call for festive food, so we put our heads together to figure out a new way to use these controversial candies. And what's better than a marshmallow treat? Marshmallow treats with Rice Krispies, obviously! Say hello to Peepsie Treats!

For some reason, Rice Krispie Treats always feel like a springy dessert to me, and these Peepsie Treats do seasonal double duty by adding Easter Peeps to the mix. Throw in the multi-colored layers (heck, you could even take a tie-dye approach and mix 'em all together … ), and you've got an easy Easter treat that's as fun to eat as it is to make.

One of the best things about this recipe is its genius hack of using the microwavable bowls. Microwaving the peeps, butter, and krispies together means waaaay fewer pots to clean up, which can be a nightmare — especially when working with sticky marshmallow. Though it's worth noting that you'll want to work quickly, as the peeps can start to firm up rather quickly once they're out of the microwave. As a trick, grease your spatula to keep things moving. Even better — just use your hands!

We like our treats tall, so we made each layer pretty fat. If you prefer a more bite-sized Peepsie Treat, press the layers down flatter, or reduce the amount of Rice Krispies by ½ cup for each color. But let's be real: in the world of dessert, bigger is usually better.
