July 4th is one week away—do you know what you'll be drinking? We spend so much time planning the grilling menu for the holiday, but the cocktails are just as important. We wanted to get super patriotic with red, white, and blue stripes, but we weren't convinced that anything would be able to stay nice and layered.
But it turns out that getting those colorful layers of a milkshake is much easier than it seems. You just need to set aside a little extra time because you need to wait 15 minutes before you freeze the next. (The longer you let each layer set, the better your results.)
The layers themselves are super adaptable based on what booze you wanna use. I went with blue Curaçao—a citrusy liqueur made in the Caribbean—to avoid food coloring (if you do want it to look even bolder blue, add a couple drops.) The vanilla layer we simply spiked with plain vodka, but vanilla would totally work. Also, if you want this shake to skew more tropical, you can use rum or tequila. For the red layer, we went with raspberry sorbet and raspberry vodka for some fruity flavor.
The best way to celebrate #merica, am I right?!
