When it comes to dessert bars, I don't discriminate. But these days, I'm really feeling blondies. Even if brownies are more your type, you'll still love these. Because let's face it: blondies have more fun. They're a one-bowl, no-fuss dessert that you can easily dress up any way you want. In Delish terms, this means adding a fluffy coating of shredded coconut, drizzling silky smooth condensed milk and throwing sprinkles on top—lots of rainbow sprinkles.
In essence, a blondie is a "blonde brownie." It has a similar texture to the fudgy confection but none of the cocoa taste (except for the chocolate chips). Each bite has a healthy dose of butterscotch flavor, which reminds me more of a chocolate chip cookie than it does a brownie. For this recipe, we used all brown sugar, which is where that rich sweetness comes from. The base is pretty traditional, but the topping is where the party really gets started.
In order to be called "Marilyn Bars," we amped up the glam factor. Enter: the golden coconut coating. If you love magic bars, you will freak out over this topping. It's truly magical and just another example of why we swear by sweetened condensed milk. Bejeweling the bars with extra chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles is the last fabulous step. It's what makes ordinary chocolate chip cookies and brownies look like plain Janes in comparison.
