Want to see grown men and women squirm, shudder, and dry heave? Invite them to taste test tacos—without letting them know they're loaded with chapulines, AKA fried grasshoppers. (Side note: We're sorry, guys. You may never trust us again, and that hurts.)

In many countries—like Mexico, where this dish originates—eating insects isn't such a big deal. The U.N. reports that 2 billion people regularly nosh on 'em, and is even looking into it as a food source in the fight against world hunger.

That trend hasn't really caught on in the States, though, and, as you can see from our taste-testers' reactions, the thought of eating grasshoppers tends to feel a little more Fear Factor than typical Friday lunch. Once they got over their less-than-thrilled initial reactions, the final results were ... mixed. At best.

It probably didn't help that more than half of those who tried the tacos wound up with a grasshopper leg stuck between their teeth.
