We’ll find a way to enjoy a classic margarita anytime of year, but when the leaves start to change, we can’t get enough of adding fall twists to this classic cocktail. This fall cocktail adds warming, spiced notes to the staple drink with the addition of sweet apple cider, fresh lemon juice, and a cinnamon-sugar rim. The result is a margarita recipe that is just as refreshing as the original, but is fit to be served at all your fall gatherings (including Thanksgiving dinner). Keep reading on for all of our top tips on how to make it the best it can be:
The best tequila for an apple cider margarita:
There are two main stars in this fall margarita: the tequila and the apple cider. When it comes to the type of tequila to use, we recommend choosing your favorite silver tequila. That being said, if you’re going for a smooth, almost caramel-like flavor, a reposado would also be a good choice. The apple cider is one of our key players here, so choose a tequila that won’t distract too much from that sweet, spiced flavor, and instead will enhance it. Need more inspo? Check out our list of our favorite tequila brands.
The apple cider:
You can totally buy store-bought apple cider for this recipe, but if you’re looking to take these margs over the top, our homemade apple cider is truly something special. Plus, once you make it, you can use it in all our favorite apple cider cocktails.
How to make the cinnamon-sugar rim:
While you can skip it if you prefer, the cinnamon-sugar rim is one of our favorite things about this cocktail. To make it, all you need to do is dip your glass into water, then into a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Batch it:
We chose to serve these margs in individual glasses, but if you’re serving a crowd, feel free to double (or triple!) this recipe in a pitcher for a crowd-pleasing cocktail.
