Ingredients
- 3 cups
apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 cups
water
- 1/2 cup
packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup
cornstarch
- 1 tsp.
vanilla
- 1 tsp.
cinnamon
Pinch kosher salt
- 2
(14-oz. packages) refrigerated pie crusts
- 2
Eggs, beaten
- 2 Tbsp.
Sanding sugar
Caramel, for serving
Directions
- Step 1Preheat oven to 350 and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2In a medium bowl, squeeze lemon juice on apples to keep them from browning.
- Step 3In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, combine water with brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, vanilla and kosher salt. Whisk until fully combined.
- Step 4Add apples to the pan and bring mixture to a boil, stirring frequently. Cook until apples are tender, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Step 5Spread one pie crust out on prepared baking sheet. Spread apple mixture onto pie crust, and top with a second pie crust.
- Step 6Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar. Using a pizza cutter, cut into fry shapes.
- Step 7Bake for 20 minutes, until crust is golden. Serve with caramel for dipping.
