Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 Garlic clove, minced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices provolone
  • 4 Hamburger buns

Directions

    1. Step 1In a large skillet over medium heat, heat vegetable oil. Add onion and bell peppers and cook, stirring often, until softened, about 5 minutes.
    2. Step 2Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds, then add the beef. Cook until no longer pink, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain fat.
    3. Step 3Stir in beef broth, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire and season generously with salt and pepper. Simmer until most the liquid has reduced and the mixture is thick, 5 minutes.
    4. Step 4Top beef with provolone and cover skillet with a tight-fitting lid to melt, about 2 minutes.
    5. Step 5Remove from heat and serve cheesy ground beef mixture in hamburger buns. Serve warm.
