Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups grits
- 6 cups water
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled, divided
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 3 green onions, sliced
Directions
- Step 1In the bowl of a slow cooker, combine grits, water, 1 cup cheddar cheese and about half the bacon. Season with salt and pepper, then let the mixture stand for a minute to allow grits to settle to bottom.
- Step 2Cover and cook on high until the grits are tender, about 3 hours, stirring occasionally if you can. (Alternatively, you can cook the grits on low for for 8 hours.)
- Step 3Add butter, green onions and remaining 1/2 cup cheese and bacon. Stir until the butter is melted. Serve warm.
