Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp.
extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/2
yellow onion, minced
- 2 1/2 cups
ketchup
- 1/4 cup
molasses
- 1/3 cup
apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup
packed brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp.
tomato paste
- 1/4 cup
Worcestershire sauce
- 1/3 cup
Jack Daniel's whiskey
- 3 lb.
chicken wings, (split at the joints, tips removed)
kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Directions
- Step 1Preheat grill over medium heat.
- Step 2Meanwhile, make BBQ sauce. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds more. Pour in ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and whiskey. Simmer until flavors meld and mixture reduces slightly, about 5-10 minutes.
- Step 3Season chicken on both sides with salt and pepper to taste. Add to grill and cook until the skin is golden-brown and the meat is cooked through, about 20-25 minutes, flipping the chicken about halfway through.
- Step 4Remove from heat and toss in about 1 cup of sauce, adding more sauce if desired.
