Eating your feelings has never been so real.

If I’m the first to inform you, I apologize, but it’s official: Mercury retrograde has begun. Wondering what the heck I’m talking about? The planet Mercury governs a few aspects of life, including communication, travel, and technology. Mercury retrograde is an illusion of Mercury moving backward. While it isn’t actually going backward, when it's in retrograde, your life may feel like it’s moving in the wrong direction. In the worst of it, you can expect messed up travel plans, hasty decisions, and struggling to express how you feel.

I’m super-sensitive to this period, and the last thing I want to worry about is what I’m going to eat. At the same time, all I want is comfort food to the max. If there has ever been a time to eat your feelings, it's right now. That’s why I turn to these recipes every time Mercury decides to mess with me: They’re quick, easy, and ridiculously comforting. I’ve got classic weeknight dinners, cozy, comforting staples, sweet treats, and a cocktail (or two) here that make even the worst of days feel all right.

While takeout might be calling your name, I promise: Making these recipes homemade will not only take your mind off of whatever is ailing you (coffee spilling on your brand new white shirt, if you’re like me), but you don’t want to risk any ordering mix-ups. Queue up your favorite comfort movie (Pride & Prejudice, of course), and let these recipes make you feel like your life is more in order than it actually is.

Nothing screams comfort food to me like mac & cheese, but this recipe adds a twist that makes the staple feel interesting and new. This one-pot recipe starts by cooking macaroni, then uses the same pot and pasta water to create a very creamy queso sauce that coats every curly noodle. Grab the tortilla chips—this is an app and dinner in one.
