Move over, hot toddy—there's a new hot drink in town, and the name is fireside negroni. We dressed up the tried and true negroni with Earl Grey tea and a touch of maple syrup. As the season transitions and the days get shorter, we look to hot cocktails like this one to keep the chill out of our bones.
This fireside negroni is a sophisticated and complex take on the classic toddy using Earl Grey tea instead of hot water, maple syrup instead of honey, and the bitter yet balanced ingredients of a traditional negroni. The tea adds notes of bergamot and citrus, and the maple syrup gives a touch of rich sweetness that welcomes another sip, and another sip, and another, until it’s time to put the kettle back on for another cocktail. What a beauty of a drink!
What's fun about this is, just like a toddy, you can have so many variations. Play around and swap out the tea and sweetener, or squeeze in a little lemon or citrus to give it a little brightness. Chamomile, green tea, and/or honey would work perfectly. Lastly, we personally like our hot drinks HOT, so the pro tip is to pop the drink in the microwave for a quick 20 seconds after mixing to have it come out steaming.
