Ginger is the sweet and spicy centerpiece of a good Moscow Mule, but it’s also a fixture in some of our favorite holiday recipes. We wondered what would happen if you were to take the classic cocktail and double down on the holiday spirit. The answer? The yule mule.
This Christmas cocktail is just as refreshing and bright as the traditional version, but makes a few festive swaps that make it perfect for the holidays. Instead of lime juice, we opt for the classic winter combination of cranberry and orange. To replicate the same tartness as the lime, this recipe calls for unsweetened cranberry juice instead of sweetened cranberry juice cocktail.
We also give the mule a holiday twist by using rosemary instead of mint. You may be used to rosemary in savory recipes, but it works especially well in cocktails (like a gin fizz, for instance). In the yule mule, the rosemary’s woodsy, herbal aroma gets muddled into the vodka and rounds out the tart and spicy cocktail. There’s also a sprig used as a garnish, so you get a whiff of the festive holiday fragrance with every sip.
