If you were a kid in the '90s, the thought of a Kudos Bar likely brings back memories of a chocolatey, peanut buttery, crisp yet chewy, after-school treat (and maybe some lunchtime bartering). Kudos were always marketed as granola bars, but they tasted more like a candy bar (score one for the kids!). While you can’t find them in stores anymore, my no-bake copycat Kudos Bars are even better than I remember. The secret lies in the gooey, caramel-like sauce and using both rice cereal and oats for that beloved crispy texture.
Set yourself up for success:
There are several steps I recommend to make this recipe turn out as perfect as possible. For one, line the pan with parchment or wax paper before you begin to fill it so that it is easy to remove the bars without losing any of that beautiful chocolatey crust. Similarly, before measuring the sticky ingredients like honey or corn syrup, spray your measuring cups with cooking spray. This will help reduce waste. You don’t want to fight to get the whole bar coated in chocolate, so use a bowl wide enough to dip an entire bar easily. Lastly, use the back of a measuring cup to firmly press down on the cereal mixture to compact it. This will help the bars stay together and give a better bite.
Now you know how to make the best homemade Kudos Bars. So put on your favorite pair of Skidz and dig into one of the best treats of the '90s, fresh from home.

Ingredients
Cooking spray
- 2 cups
rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies)
- 1 cup
old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup
packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup
light corn syrup or honey
- 4 Tbsp.
unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp.
smooth peanut butter
- 1/4 tsp.
kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups
semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tsp.
coconut oil
Mini M&M's, for decorating (optional)
Directions
- Step 1Grease the bottom of an 8" square baking pan with cooking spray and line with parchment, leaving a 2" overhang on 2 opposite sides.
- Step 2In a large heatproof bowl, combine cereal and oats. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, bring brown sugar, corn syrup (or honey), butter, peanut butter, and salt to a low simmer. Cook, stirring, until sugar is dissolved, about 3 minutes.
- Step 3Add sauce to cereal mixture and gently stir to combine. Transfer mixture to prepared pan, using the back of a measuring cup to firmly press the mixture into the pan. Refrigerate until bar is cold and set, about 2 hours or overnight.
- Step 4Using parchment overhang, transfer bars to a cutting board, then slice into 12 bars.
- Step 5In a small heatproof bowl, microwave chips and oil in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until melted and smooth, about 1 minute total.
- Step 6Carefully dip bars so bottoms are coated in chocolate, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spoon remaining chocolate into a plastic bag and seal. Snip a tiny hole in corner of bag and drizzle bars with chocolate. Decorate with mini M&M's (if using).
- Step 7Refrigerate until chocolate is cooled and set, at least 30 minutes or up to 1 week.
