We took inspo from the ever popular bloomin' onion and made a just-as-fun fall dessert. Though these finished bloomin' apples look crazy impressive, they're actually quite easy to make. Once you get cutting them down (it's easier than you think—watch the video for help), all you need to do is fill with chewy caramel squares, brush with melted butter, and bake! Top with vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle, and you just might say goodbye to apple pie.
In the video, we use a melon baller to core the apples, but if you have a corer, that is my preferred method. Simply use a corer to remove the core, then use a small spoon to get rid of any leftover pieces. Because apples can turn brown really quickly, you'll want to brush them with butter and get them in the oven pretty quickly after slicing them. If you want to take your time, squeeze lemon juice all over the cut side to prevent browning.
The best part of this recipe? You can make these in the oven or air fryer. Win, win!

- 1 Tbsp.
packed brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp.
granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp.
ground cinnamon
- 4
apples
- 8

Directions
For Oven
- Step 1Preheat oven to 375° and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together butter, sugars, and cinnamon.
- Step 2Slice top off of each apple then use a corer to remove core. Then if necessary, use a small spoon to remove any pieces of core left. Using a paring knife, make two circular cuts in apple. Place apple cut side down on a cutting board and slice crosswise, being careful not to cut through the core.
- Step 3Place cut apples in a small baking dish. Fill each apple with two caramel squares, then brush melted butter mixture on top. Bake until the apples are tender, about 30 minutes.
- Step 4Serve warm with ice cream and drizzle with caramel.
