Because you've been there and done that with apple butter...
So what is pumpkin butter you wonder. It takes on a similar profile to pumpkin pie which should make you even more excited. It’s made in a very similar way in which the pumpkin, sugar, and spices are cooked down until a thickened luxurious mixture is formed. Hence why we call it “butter”. It’s versatile in many applications whether you want to spread it on a chocolate muffin, serve alongside roasted pork loin, or bake into a basic bundt cake recipe. Eat this however you’d like. We just want to bring you a little more pumpkin joy.
Could you make this into dessert?
You could add pumpkin butter to the base of a vanilla custard, fold into whipped cream to dollop on pumpkin pie, or add to apple cider doughnut batter.
Can this be made year round?
Pumpkin butter is great for any occasion that you feel pumpkin belongs. We most often associate pumpkin with fall and winter but you could make and eat this wherever you want.
What other ingredients could I add to this?
Pumpkin pairs well with spices like nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cayenne, and chili. Orange and lemon are interchangeable citrus here as well. Other ingredients that work well with pumpkin include pear and cranberry juice.
What else can you make into a fruit butter?
Apple butter is the obvious answer. You can turn figs, plums, and even mangos into butter. It's about the addition of sugar, spices, and low and slow cooking to reduce the fruit into a rich butter-like mixture.
