Bang bang sauce is a spicy combination of sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and garlic. Popularized in the US at Bonefish Grill restaurants, bang bang shrimp is coated in a sauce made from mayonnaise, Sriracha, and chili garlic sauce. Though the origins of bang bang as a culinary term comes from the Szechuan province of China—where the sauce was a coating for a chicken dish featuring a sauce made with chili oil, black vinegar, toasted sesame paste, and Sichuan peppercorn—it's morphed into this popular, quick and spicy coating for any number of foods. (Seriously, we've tossed corn, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower in bang bang sauce and even drizzled it on a burger.) Here, a version of it adorns air fried broccolini, lending a kick to this tender vegetable. With less bitterness than broccoli rabe and a bit more texture than broccoli, broccolini is ideal for pairing with spicy ingredients. If you'd rather bang bang broccoli, we can make that happen, too.
Bang bang sauce already has a kick to it, but if you really like the heat, bump up the amount of sriracha or add an extra drizzle before serving. For an over-the-top addition, drizzle with a little mayo too (trust us!).

Ingredients
- 1
clove garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp.
sweet chili sauce
- 1 Tbsp.
fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp.
extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp.
sriracha
- 1/8 tsp.
kosher salt
- 1
bunch of broccolini (about 8 oz.), ends trimmed
Fresh cilantro leaves and toasted sesame seeds, for serving
Directions
- Step 1In a large bowl, whisk garlic, chili sauce, lime juice, oil, sriracha, and salt. Add broccolini and toss to coat.
- Step 2In an air-fryer basket, arrange broccolini in a single layer, scraping any sauce from bowl over broccolini. Cook at 400° until broccolini stems are crisp-tender and florets are slightly charred in spots, 5 to 7 minutes.
- Step 3Arrange broccolini on a platter and scrape any sauce drippings from bottom of air fryer over top. Top with cilantro and sesame seeds.
