Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to prepare vegetables, and carrots are no exception. To make this delicious vegetarian side dish, you'll toss a pound of steamed carrots in a slightly spicy honey-butter glaze. Rather than cooking the carrots and the glaze together in the pan, you'll cook the carrots and the glaze separately. Serve these as part of a spring brunch spread or alongside roasted lamb at Easter dinner.
Use this recipe as your go-to guide to steaming carrots. If you want a savory herb glaze, swap out the honey for freshly chopped dill or parsley.
Is it better to boil or steam carrots?
No matter which way you cook them, carrots are a healthy choice. Steaming is a slightly better pick since the carrots don't lose as many of their nutrients to the water. (Steaming is also more environmentally friendly since it uses less water.)
How do you steam carrots without a steamer?
No steamer? No problem. Place the carrots in a microwave-safe bowl with 1/4 cup water. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or a microwave-safe lid and cook on high for 4 minutes. Check doneness with a fork and add more time to reach desired texture.
Choose carrots with an even thickness.
When shopping for this recipe, look for carrots that are about the same width. This will help them cook evenly as they steam.

honey
- 1 tsp.
lemon juice
