If you have a loaf of bread you know you can't get through before it starts to turn stale, you have a few options. You could freeze it, make amazing french toast, or make some homemade breadcrumbs. Making breadcrumbs is easy and only takes two simple steps. Chop in a food processor and then toast. Done. Use whatever bread you like or have on hand. It can be made with the remaining of that beautiful sourdough or a basic loaf of sandwich bread. White or whole wheat, it doesn't matter! Once the crumbs are toasted and cooled they can be stored in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
A quick way to fancy these up is to fry them in a tablespoon or two of butter with a few cloves of grated garlic for some addictive, crunch and toasty garlic breadcrumbs. A bit of lemon zest mixed in won't hurt either!
Use your breadcrumbs to coat Oven-Fried Chicken, Air Fryer Zucchini, or on top of your Mac and Cheese!
