Grilled Hot Dog Panini

You’ll forget all about hot dog buns once you’ve tried these delicious paninis. Made with sliced fried hot dogs and melty American cheese, this twist on a summer classic is a total crowd pleaser. Load ’em up with ketchup and mustard combo, (we like French’s Classic Yellow Mustard for its smooth texture and tangy taste) and get ready to press. If you don’t have a panini press, grilling them in a sauté pan works great too.

Ingredients
- 6
hot dogs, halved lengthwise
- 2
demi baguettes or hoagie rolls, split lengthwise
- 3 Tbsp.
French’s Classic Yellow Mustard, plus more for serving
- 1/4 cup
ketchup, plus more for serving
- 8
slices American cheese, halved
- 1/4 cup
white onion, finely chopped
- 2 Tbsp.
pickle relish
- 1/2 tsp.
poppy seeds
Directions
- Step 1Preheat a sandwich press or grill pan over medium. Add hot dogs and cook, turning one time, until lightly charred and warmed through, about 4 minutes. If using a panini press, close the press and cook for 2 minutes total. Set aside on a plate.
- Step 2Lay bread on a work surface, cut side up, and spread one half of each baguette with mustard and the other half with ketchup. Top each half with cheese. Arrange hot dogs evenly on top of the cheese on the bottom slice of the baguette. Dollop hot dogs with onions and relish and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Close sandwiches and gently press.
- Step 3Press or grill the sandwiches, flipping one time, until the outside is golden and the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes. If using a cast iron skillet or grill pan, use a second pan to press the sandwiches. If using a panini press, close the press and cook for 2 minutes and 30 seconds total.
- Step 4Slice each sandwich in half and serve with more mustard and ketchup.
