Dessert truffles are not only a chocolate lover's dream, but they're also completely customizable and so easy to make. Set them out at your holiday dinner, or make them for the sweetest homemade gift to give to loved ones and neighbors. Top these with even more chocolate, or even Christmas toppings like candy canes or festive sprinkles to add some holiday cheer to any celebration. Never made truffles before? No stress—follow my easy recipe to learn how to master these two-step treats.
First, grab a medium heatproof bowl. Add your chopped chocolate along with your butter. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the heavy cream until it is just simmering. Once simmering, pour the heavy cream over the chocolate and butter, then let it sit for at least 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, whisk the mixture together until combined. Once combined, refrigerate the chocolate mixture until it’s firm—around 1 hour.
Meanwhile, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, using a small cookie scoop, scoop the ganache and roll it into smooth balls using your hands. Once formed, place them on the prepared baking sheet, then refrigerate until firm (this should take around 30 minutes).
Once the truffles are firm, you can get to coating and decorating them! If you’re coating these in melted chocolate, then place the melted chocolate in a bowl, and dip the truffles in using a fork to coat them well. Top them with your chosen candy or topping (or leave them plain), then get to snacking!
