People give me weird looks when I tell them I like steamed broccoli. But it's true. I LOVE IT. And for every one of your argumentative questions, I have an answer that will make you like it, too.
Is broccoli really that healthy?
Short answer=YES. As a member of the cruciferous family (along with cauliflower and kale), broccoli is a good source of fiber and protein. It's also is rich in iron, potassium, calcium, and vitamins.
How many calories does broccoli have?
1 cup = 31 calories. YASSS! Those tree-like florets contain almost no fat. Plus, they're low-carb.
Why not just roast it?
We love roasted broccoli and will scream it from the rooftop. But, if we're being honest with ourselves, it's not the healthiest way to cook broccoli. Studies show that steaming the vegetable strengthens its cholesterol-lowering potential. It also better for preserving antioxidants, compared to cooking in oil.
Do I need a steamer?
Nope! It's one more thing to buy and take up space. All you need is water, a pot, and a lid.
