On busy mornings, we crave easy, quick, and healthy breakfasts, like our overnight oats or chia pudding. But, for those mornings when we really need to get a boost of greens, we turn to this perfect green smoothie. Packed with good-for-you fruits and veggies, this smoothie has everything you need to keep you full and energized till lunch. Plus, it's downright delicious. Wondering how to make the perfect smoothie? Here's what you need to know:
Fresh or frozen?
For smoothies, frozen fruit are best. It blend sup thicker than fresh fruit and gives you a really cold smoothie to enjoy after blending. If you don't have frozen fruit, freeze your fresh fruit for 30 minutes before blending or add about 1 cup of ice and blend until smooth! As far as the kale and spinach go, you can use fresh or frozen—either will work!
Add a thickener.
We use almond butter in our smoothie, but peanut butter, Greek yogurt, or vanilla yogurt are all great options. We went with 2 tbsp. in this recipe, but if you prefer thinner smoothies, you can either lessen the amount of thickener or skip it all together.
Pick your liquid.
Almond milk is great for the added nutty flavor, but coconut milk pairs well if you're looking for more of tropical smoothie taste and gives a richer, creamier flavor. Whole milk or fruit juice also work well if you’re not feeling plant-based milk. Tip: If you skipped the thickener, use less liquid as well.
