We know frozen pizzas aren't usually what you think of when you picture yourself biting into a hot, delicious slice, but there are times when you can't wait on delivery. Plus, frozen pizza has really evolved, and (gasp!) some of them really ARE as good as delivery.

A team of taste-testers sampled every kind of frozen pizza sold at major grocery stores, rating them on a scale of one (is this even pizza?) to five (is this delivery?), so you don't have to waste your money on the cardboard stuff. We're serious: we literally ate 25 pizzas in one afternoon (and probably won't be able to go near another pie for a while).

For consistency, we heated up each pie according to the directions on the box, but if you are looking for a way to elevate a frozen pizza into something that will taste like it's fresh from a pizzeria, try cooking it in the air fryer. The circulation will make the crust extra crispy, while the cheese will get a little brown and have just the right amount of pull.

We tried a wide variety of gluten-free pies, from chickpea to flax to cauliflower crusts. Caulipower's version was the obvious winner. The crust is cooked in a stone-fired oven, which lends a crispy exterior that can stand up to the toppings.

It also had the least artificial flavor of any pie we tried. It's a solid pick for people with allergies, special diets, or anybody who wants to limit their carb intake.

Best Cheese Pizza

When we were picking our favorite cheese pizzas, our most important factor was the quality of the cheese itself. Amy's Cheese Pizza offered the most flavorful pie with a distinctly high quality cheese.

Our tasters also loved the sauce to cheese to crust ratio, which made for a balanced bite that still allowed the cheese to shine.

California Pizza Kitchen

California Pizza Kitchen is launching a new line of pizzas that feature a thin, flaky, crust inspired by a croissant. We got our hands on a box ahead of its release and, can we just say, it blew nearly every pizza out of the water.

The flakiness is next level delicious, there's an even distribution of pepperoni, and you can never go wrong with a drizzle of hot honey. Run, don't walk, to your nearest Target this April to get yourself a box.

Come on, if we have to pick a top choice for a barbecue chicken pizza, we're obviously going with the people who invented it in the first place. The crispy, thin crust is delightfully crunchy but substantial enough to hold up all the toppings.

Some of us found the barbecue sauce to be a little on the sweet side, but it's still a winner in our book.
