The Oscars arrive at a great time of year: You've recovered from the Super Bowl and you're feeling depressed about winter DRAGGING ON. Then comes along Hollywood's biggest night and we get to gawk at the clothes, obsess over the movies, and, of course, eat all the food. Luckily, we came up with some badass appetizers to pair with each of the Best Picture nominees and a few other categories. Enjoy the show!

1

Best Picture: The Big Short — Braised Short Rib Chili

Besides the obvious word play, (couldn't resist) we chose this flavor-packed chili because even though the flavors are complex, the prep is not—much like the way this film took a super complicated mortgage crisis and dressed it up in a Margot Robbie-decorated easy-to-understand ribbon. Your guests will definitely want to gobble this up with all the greed of a Wall Street broker.

Best Picture: Bridge of Spies — Skillet Stroganoff

Bridge of Spies tells a true story of how one American (Tom Hanks) successfully negotiated a prisoner exchange with the Soviets during the Cold War. We couldn't resist pairing the film with our favorite take on a Russian classic: stroganoff. (This is a dish my mom made a ton when I was a kid and every time I serve it to friends, they lose their minds.)

Best Picture: Brooklyn — Pizza Fries

Brooklyn is a very sweet story about an Irish immigrant who moves to—yep, you guessed it—Brooklyn to find her fortune and true love. She ends up torn between an adorable Italian and a sprightly Irishman. Good news, you don't have to choose: These pizza fries combine the best of Italy and Ireland, and will win literally any party anywhere.

Best Picture: Mad Max: Fury Road — Milkshake Shots

We already told you about a variety of foods that pair well with Mad Max, but the one most party appropriate is spiked milkshakes—because they can be made into super cute shots. After watching people wander in the desert for days on a dry and dusty road full of fire and grease, you're gonna want a quick sip of ice cream.

Best Picture: The Martian — Tater Totchos

In The Martian, stranded astronout Matt Damon basically survives solely on potatoes. I went for fries in my earlier write up of food to binge on, but for party time, these tater-tot nachos are way more fun (and easier to eat).

Best Picture: The Revenant — Gummy Bear Sangria

The Revenant is a tough movie to watch, so a drink is definitely in order. We couldn't think of a better way to pay homage to the epic Leo-bear match-up than with some of our favorite type of bear, the gummy kind. This sangria will be the perfect way to toast Leo when he inevatibly claims his long-coveted prize.

Best Picture: Room — Nutella Baked Brie

Room is up there with The Revenant in the tough-to-watch category, not in violence but in subject matter. It tells the story of a woman (Brie Larson) and her son (the ridiculously adorable Jacob Tremblay) who have been kept in a one-room shed for 12 years. So yeah, you need a food to lighten the mood. Luckily, the film's star shares a name with one of our favorite party foods, baked brie, and this Nutella-drenched version felt like the perfect way to kick things up a notch for Oscar night.

Best Picture: Spotlight — Clam Chowda Dip

Spotlight tells the story of the Boston Globe's Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into the Catholic Church and is a quietly intense experience to watch. (It's actually my personal pick for Best Picture and if you haven't seen it, it's hard to explain why.) Easier to explain is why you should make the Boston classic clam chowder into this addictive dip. Trust us, it's a much more party-worthy way to eat the New England staple.

Best Animated Feature: Inside Out — Beef & Broccoli Noodles

My actual favorite movie of 2015 was this animated gem, which follows the emotions in an 11-year-old Riley's head. Joy and Sadness' journey to help her cope with a big move makes me cry EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. So while I'm slightly peeved this movie isn't in the Best Picture race, I'll comfort myself with a heaping portion of these can't-stop-eating beef and broccoli noodles, much like Riley does during an emotionally heated moment in the film.

Best Documentary Feature: Amy

Another tearjerker, this frontrunner follows the struggles of songbird Amy Winehouse, right around the time she recorded her instant classic album, Back to Black. I watched this on a plane, and let's just say I made everyone uncomfortable from my sobbing. I figured this wine-infused float was a guaranteed pick-me-up, and a nice way to toast once the film no-doubt wins in this category.

Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone, Creed — Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Creed is outrageously unrepresented at the Oscars—seriously, it's that good—but I don't think anyone can argue that Stallone didn't give a career-best performance. You'll notice a pattern here, but he made me cry. STALLONE made me cry. Obviously, Creed takes full advantage of the Rocky series' history in Philly, therefore these appetizer-sized versions of a classic Philly cheesesteak are a no brainer.
