Grilling season and summer diets don't exactly go hand-in-hand, but we've come up with a genius solution that'll help you survive barbecue season without turning antisocial (or ditching your diet in the name of peer pressure). The problem isn't the meat, it's the carby bun, and while you could put a lettuce leaf around it (or just go au natural with the patty), there's something way more fun about holding a burger between your hands and taking a bite out of it, sandwich style. So we created the tomato bun.
Not only do tomato bun sliders solve the carb problem, but they're also small, so naturally, they're going to be less calories than a giant burger. These are pretty simple to make: Make your beef patty (but if you want to sub chicken or a veggie burger, go for it), grill it, top with cheese, add some mayo, then place between a halved tomato.
You were probably going to add tomato slices to your burger, anyway, and now you've got a way to make burger season way healthier. No one wants to be the person knife-and-forking a salad burger while everyone else is biting into buns. Truth.
