If you've been known to mix popcorn and M&Ms at the movie theater, or dip your fries into a Frosty, sit down and politely order whoever's nearest you to start fanning you immediately, because you're going to get all hot and bothered when you see this Oreo Popcorn.
It's the perfect combination of buttery, salty popcorn and cookies-and-cream flavor, and it only takes four ingredients—and about five minutes, plus 15 minutes of industrial-strength patience—to make.
You don't even need a full kitchen to conquer this recipe; as long as you have a resealable gallon-sized plastic bag and a microwave, you're all set.
White chocolate chips can be tricky to melt, which is why we recommend adding a little oil and microwaving it for just 20 seconds at a time—stirring before popping it back in—to help it mix smoothly. If it gets a little clumpy, don't worry—the treat will taste just as good, even if the white chocolate-to-popcorn ratio isn't as evenly distributed. If you don't have oil, you can use a little butter (which will give the popcorn even more buttery flavor), but the white chocolate is more likely to get gritty and seize up as you melt it.
Admittedly, the weirdest part of this recipe is the final step: Sticking the popcorn in the fridge to chill. You don't have to, but in our taste tests, we found people preferred the chilled popcorn to the gooey, freshly mixed snack or the room-temperature version. The popcorn doesn't taste stale, since it spends such little time in the fridge, but if it weirds you out, you can always pour out the mixture in an even layer on a platter and let it sit on your kitchen counter for 20 or so minutes—just long enough to let the white chocolate harden.
Oreo fanatics, consider this one more way to enjoy your beloved snack.
