What to Watch: Mean Girls
Where to watch: Netflix and available to rent on Amazon.
I'm in full Oscar-season movie mode, which usually means I see at least two movies per weekend. A movie that is definitely in that conversation is Spotlight, which tells the true story of The Boston Globe's exhaustive, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into sexual assault in the Catholic church. A pretty heavy movie for a Saturday afternoon, but one well worth the discomfort because of its incredible storytelling and powerful performances by Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams. So when I was searching for something on the lighter side to watch this weekend, McAdams' star-making turn in Mean Girls was an obvious choice. Lindsay Lohan and her antics might have dominated headlines around this movie, but it's McAdams as the deliciously nasty Regina George who makes the movie worth revisiting. It's especially nice to watch to remember that McAdams is a FUN actress. Watching her in Spotlight and this past summer's terrible season of True Detective almost made us forget.
What to Eat: Dessert Bars
When I was thinking of food in Mean Girls, I immediately thought of Regina George's hilarious effort to lose weight, which is ultimately thwarted when Lohan's Cady gives Regina Kälteen Bars, which are designed for weight gain. Now these dessert bars are not specifically designed to make you gain weight, but they could definitely do the job if you enjoy one too many. But take a cue from Regina George and just know when to give in. It's the fetch way to live.
