We're banana bread obsessed here at Delish, so this breakfast combination is truly what our brunch dreams are made of. This easy-to-make recipe combines everything you love about banana bread with the tender-yet-crisp texture that makes waffles so irresistible. Whether you’re a breakfast enthusiast or simply can’t get enough of banana bread, these are a must-try. Here's everything you need to know:
The components:
Melted butter and brown sugar add moisture and flavor, while sour cream and baking powder ensure a light and fluffy batter. A touch of cinnamon and chocolate chips take these waffles from great to extraordinary.
Top tips:
My top tip? Use ripe bananas. Like really, really ripe. Their natural sweetness and flavor can’t be replaced. Be sure to avoid overmixing to prevent dense waffles. This recipe works in both Belgian and classic waffle irons (the yield may vary depending on the iron size). Finally, for extra-crisp waffles, you can let them cook just a minute longer until the desired texture is reached.
Storage:
To freeze leftover waffles, let cool completely, arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet or plate, and freeze. Once frozen, store in an airtight container or resealable bag (squeeze as much air out of the bag as possible). They’ll keep for a couple of months in the freezer. Reheat in a toaster oven to serve.
