It’s summertime! Here at Delish, we’re all about making the most of seasonal ingredients. One of our faves? Corn! It’s super sweet this time of year, and there’s SO much you can do with it! Fritters are a great way to turn corn into a delicious appetizer (or killer side.) In this round of Celebrity Snackdown, we pit two corn fritters against each other, from two VERY different people. Southern belle Ree Drummond, Vs. English hard ass Gordon Ramsay. There can only be one.
REE’S RECIPE
Ree keeps it relatively classic, with a simple corn and chive filling. What takes her fritters from good to great is a quick dip in hot oil. Yep, these babies get deep fried. The batter is extremely loose, so Ree suggests dropping your fritters into the oil with a small cookie scoop. They only take a couple minutes to fry up, and Ree suggests serving them hot, drizzled with maple syrup. Hard to go wrong there!
GORDON’S RECIPE
Gordon takes a fresher, less heavy approach to fritters. The batter is filled with corn, green onions, red chili peppers, and cilantro. The fritters are pan fried in veggie oil and served alongside a seriously killer cilantro lime yogurt sauce. They’re super light and a little spicy, so they pair perfectly with a creamy cool dip. Mmm … tastes like summer.
THE VERDICT
Another unanimous vote! Though everyone liked Gordon’s fritters, it’s REALLY HARD to beat something that’s deep fried and drenched in syrup. A valiant effort from both contenders, I’d suggest having Gordon’s fritters for dinner and Ree’s for dessert. In my heart (and stomach), there were no losers.
